It slows my computer down terribly while it's updating. I was on the phone with Microsoft for 2 hours over as many days to fix a problem.During that time MS installed the "Microsoft Security Essentials" program to protect my computer (which is what keeps updating), so I don't think the program is a virus.I run Operating System Windows Vista and my computer is a HP. Go to Windows Update (search it in the start menu) and let it look for updates and install them all...If any one can help or has the same problem, let me know. If all updates are installed, your problem should be solved.Computer Type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Asus M2N-MX SE Plus Dual Core AMD Athlon 64 X2, 2300 MHz (11.5 x 200) 4400 Corsair Value Select OS Windows 8 Pro with Media Center/Windows 7 CPU AMD 4400 /4200 Motherboard Asus M2N-MX SE Plus/Asus A8M2N-LA (Nodus M) Memory 2 GB/3GB Graphics Card Ge Force 8400 GS/Ge Force 210 Sound Card n VIDIA GT218 - High Definition Audio Controller Monitor(s) Displays Hitachi 40" LCD HDTV Screen Resolution "1842 x 1036" Keyboard Dell Keyboard Mouse Microsoft Intellimouse PSU Works 550w Case MSI "M-Box" Cooling Water Cooled Hard Drives WDC WD50 00AAKS-007AA SCSI Disk Device ST1000DL 002-9TT153 SCSI Disk Device WDC WD3200AAJB-00J3A0 ATA Device WDC WD32 WD-WCAPZ2942630 USB Device WD My Book 1140 USB Device Internet Speed Cable Medium Speed Browser Chrome/IE 10 Antivirus Eset NOD32 6.x/Win Defend Other Info Recently lost my Windows 8 on my main PC, had to go back to Windows 7.Well, it may be installing whatever updates are in the update queue - If it was trying to do them all at once (There are over 80 now) some of them may fail and Windows will keep rebooting and configuring them until they are all done.
The only way to keep it shutdown is to flip the switch on the back of the PSU.During my time on the computer I do not install any programs or what not, I just use the internet.I just can't figure out why it keeps wanting to install this update.Even then many times it immediately boots itself back up when I flip the switch back to on.I've disabled Wake-on-LAN (Wo L) settings and everything that has been suggested here as well. After I shut down my computer it automatically starts up again.
